Insurance Breast Reduction

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Manhattan, NY and Queens, NY

Insurance breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) is a medically necessary procedure that decreases the size of the breasts and repositions them on the chest to improve comfort and balance proportions. Large breasts can cause excessive strain, resulting in back, neck, and shoulder pain. Breast reduction covered by insurance can help patients find relief from back, neck, and shoulder pain, improve mobility with exercise, expand clothing options and eliminate the need for specialty bras, treat rashes and moisture issues under the breasts, lessen migraine headaches, reduce negative attention toward your chest, improve the symmetry of your breasts and boost your self-esteem. Each year, plastic surgeons perform breast reduction more than 76,000 times to help patients enhance the appearance of their breasts. (1)

About Insurance Breast Reduction

Whether you developed heavy, oversized breasts at puberty or if you recently experienced changes to your breasts after pregnancy-related changes, breastfeeding, or fluctuations in your weight, breast reduction can rebalance your proportions to help you feel more comfortable and confident. If you are struggling with back pain, neck pain, or skin irritation from large breasts, the procedure can help you address these concerns.

Whether you experienced changes to your breasts after weight fluctuations, breastfeeding, or pregnancy, breast reduction can help improve your comfort in your daily life. During the procedure, Dr. Everett will reposition the nipple and/or reduce its size during surgery to achieve a natural, harmonious appearance.

Breast Reduction After Weight Loss

After weight loss, it is common for the breasts to sag and remain overly large, a condition colloquially known as “Ozempic breast.” If you are looking to improve the appearance of your breasts after weight loss, Dr. Everett can remove the excess tissue for a smoother, curvier figure. Depending on your aesthetic goals, he can combine breast reduction after weight loss with other post-weight loss body contouring procedures.

Preparation

To prepare for breast reduction, you will need to follow all of Dr. Everett’s recommendations. This includes stopping to take oral birth control medications and many weight loss medications including semaglutide or Ozempic. You must stop using all nicotine products at least a month before and a month after surgery. Ahead of surgery, Dr. Everett will make sure you have all of the required post-operative support garments and all of your home medications before your day of surgery. Depending on what you do for work or school, he will help you determine how long you should set aside for your recovery.

Procedure

The operation is performed under general anesthesia, which means you will be completely sleeping throughout the operation.

In general, Dr. Everett believes that breast reduction surgery should be performed through an anchor-shaped incision (inverted T): This incision goes around the areola and extends vertically down to the inframammary crease, then continues horizontally along the crease. Fortunately, this incision pattern has the least tension on it and tends to heal beautifully with most scars difficult to even see in 1 year’s time. For patients who are candidates for an internal bra procedure, Dr. Everett will use an absorbable mesh to support the shape and position of your breast in the early healing phases. Dr. Everett will also perform a procedure that helps to block your sensation of pain in the breasts after surgery and because of this, most patients do not require heavy pain medication during their recovery. After surgery, you will be monitored in the recovery room, and you can return home to rest afterward. All of these operations are same-day surgery. Dr. Everett will send you home with specific instructions to help you recover.

Your results will depend on your aesthetic goals, as discussed during your consultation. After breast reduction surgery, you can enjoy a smaller breast mound, balanced body proportions, and less discomfort associated with overly large breasts.

Results are long-lasting and can be maintained if patients exercise consistently and eat healthily to maintain a stable weight.
